big write and spelling
During this week’s Big Write time, we shall be asking the children to write without talk homework in order to prepare them for the ‘unknown’ writing tasks that they will be asked to engage with in a few weeks time, for their SATs writing,
However, even though the text type, audience and purpose are unknown, there are aspects of their writing that you can talk about… Give them a simple sentence and ask them th ‘uplevel’ it by adding an interesting opener, changing the word order, or adding detail to your sentence. Give them a word and ask them how many other words with a similar meaning (synonyms) they can come up with. Ask them to describe things in detail (from the kitchen door, to the atmosphere in the sitting room!) All this talking will help them to develop their sentence structures, attention to detail and their vocabulary….and so to become skilled and confident writers. We are well on the ways
Many thanks.
SPELLINGS: Silent letters…here are just a few:
Silent Letter
wrestling
castles
climbing
designed
different
environment
hedges
interesting
knowledge
known
medicine
participate
physical
should
strength
stretched
surprise
Maths Talk Homework:
(PLEASE KEEP ON WITH THE TIMES TABLES PRACTICE.)
This week’s Talk for Maths is still measurements. But this time please concentrate on exploring areas and perimeters (distance around the outside of a shape). These are terms that children frequently need reminding of and more you use these words, the more familiar they will become.
Please encourage them to use rulers or tape measures to measure the perimeters of a range of different shapes. Rectangular objects (coasters, place mats, books table tops, rectangular boxes and food packages, small rugs…) are better for their area calculations as they should know that Area of a rectangle = length X width.

If you cannot say it...there is no way you'll ever be able to write it down! Talking about the things you are going to write about really makes a massive difference to the quality of your writing so... have a good old chinwag!
It often only takes 10 minutes and it really gets your ideas flowing!
This week's topic is.........ADVENTURE STORIES
This week all of the juniors are being creative with their story writing! Your stimulus for this week will be a picture of an enchanted forest(I will attach the picture to this link). You will then use this image to create your own adventure story.
At home, please think about:
- descriptions
- characters
- setting
- structure of your story
- is there a problem? what will the resolution be?
- how will you open your story? and how will it end?
- VCOP!!!!!!!!!

daniel hannan
a parlimentary talk
Daniel Hannan slagging off Gordon Brown? I'm afraid that when I first saw that there was some YouTube video around of Hannan's anti-Brown rant at the European parliament on Tuesday, I couldn't be bothered to watch it. I used to work with Hannan at the Daily Telegraph and I like him. He's not exactly a Guardian-reading progressive, but he's very intelligent, he's up for an argument and he's got strong beliefs (which is less common than you'd think in politics). Hannan making a speech in praise of Brown might have aroused my interest. But this one? It sounded utterly predictable.
It turned out that I missed a sensation. When I last looked, Hannan's speech was still at the top of YouTube's "most viewed" section, with 712,860 "hits". It's been described as "the most viewed political speech in the fastest time in internet history". The speech was picked up in the US, where it has featured on the Drudge Report, Fox News and the Rush Limbaugh Show among other places, and it has clearly struck a chord with the American right. "Republicans in Washington could take a lesson from the bravery of this man," Limbaugh said on his show.
Hannan has written a post on his blog trying to explain why his speech became such a hit without any coverage in the mainstream media and he makes a good point about the way political communication is changing.
The answer is that political reporters no longer get to decide what's news. The days when a minister gave briefings to a dozen lobby correspondents, and thereby dictated the next day's headlines, are over. Now, a thousand bloggers decide for themselves what is interesting. If enough of them are tickled then, bingo, you're news.
Breaking the press monopoly is one thing. But the internet has also broken the political monopoly. Ten or even five years ago, when the minister for widgets put out a press release, the mere fact of his position guaranteed a measure of coverage. Nowadays, a politician must compel attention by virtue of what he is saying, not his position. It's all a bit unsettling for professional journalists and politicians. But it's good news for libertarians of every stripe.
But this does not fully answer the question. Why did this speech take off? Hannan himself admits to being "slightly perplexed" because he's been making similar speeches for years. Having listened to it a couple of times, and read the text, I don't think it's a great speech (and some of the arguments are relatively easy to dismantle, as Sunny Hundal and Sunder Katwala have demonstrated). But it's much clearer and more concise than the speeches normally delivered in Congress or at Westminster. And, at three minutes long, it's just the right length for YouTube.
MEPs in the European parliament are sometimes only allowed to speak for one minute. They don't get heckled, in the way that MPs do at Westminster, and they don't have to use any of the archaic language about "honourable friends" etc. This makes the place quite soulless. But it also makes it much better for YouTube. Hannan's the last person I would expect to applaud European parliamentary procedure, but he should; it's one factor, I think, that has helped to make him an internet star.

surah Ibrahim, ayat 24-26

jangan jadi lilin hannan tapi jadi macam lampu pelita
source
tq saifulislam....
===============================
“Jadilah lilin… yang membakar diri untuk menerangi… berkorban diri demi kebaikan orang lain!” itulah ungkapan ‘indah’ yang sering disebut orang kita.
Guru umpama lilin.
Kekasih umpama lilin.
Ingatlah pesan Nabi Sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, agar jangan sewenang-wenangnya kita mahu menjadi lilin:

Ketika membasuh muka,"Ya Allah!
Membasuh tangan kanan," Ya Allah!
Membasuh tangan kiri,"Ya Allah!
Ketika menyapu kepala,"Ya Allah!
Ketika menyapu telinga,"Ya Allah!
Membasuh kaki kanan,"Ya Allah! Tetapkanlah kedua kakiku di atas titian Siratul Mustaqim bersama kaki -kaki hambaMu yang soleh."
Membasuh kaki kiri," Ya Allah!
